The Ask
Previously: The universe has a sense of humour and the shape of a Möbius strip. Years ago the writer gave Elena a late pregnancy and milk that ran gold. Now it’s her turn: pregnant at an age she thought was past it, leaking gold, living the scenes she wrote. In the Sahara she wrote Zerzura open and let out the god a captive’s song had buried there.

“Snow hides no ghosts.”
The Grammar of Cold
After the desert’s fevered speech, Zurich is all control: glass and snow, Christmas lights strung down Bahnhofstrasse with surgical devotion. Tarmo comes down the steps sky-eyed and unbearable. Mikhail follows, silver, breathing frost instead of words. Wolfgang comes last, scenting the cold.
Below them the Christmas markets glow, innocent as anything.
Company, Not Family
In his study above the frozen lake, Tarmo listens to everything happened since Zerzura imprisonment, and he doesn’t blink. Then he gives her the only advice a man who has run empires can give:
“Your team has to become your company. Not your family.”

The Ask
She is in the process to rewire the world: money that answers to birth instead of bloodlines, healing taught in schools the way the Irish goddess Airmid once sorted every herb for every sinew, and an arms trade starved until its weapons are just relics. She needs someone inside their boardrooms who looks like their future while he quietly wipes out their past.
“That’s you. That’s why I crossed Zerzura to get you back.”
The low rumble, half gauntlet, half admission:
“Hmm. And here I thought you missed me.”
