Lupercalia aka Saint Valentine

A pagan fertility celebration, christianised (like most) that in present times is loved and loathed by an equal number of people. Most do not see else than a commercial happening, where loved ones open wallets wide.

Before making my point; I would like to share the different tales told by both parties. Starting with the oldest tale known; the festival began in a sacred cave where Romulus and Remus were brought up by a she-wolf. In that cave, members of the Luperci (an order of Roman priests) would sacrifice a goat and a dog. The ritual provided a hide with which they slapped women and crop for fertility as spring being around the corner.

Now comes the first Saint of the Valentines who was a fierce fighter of injustice and decided to marry young lovers against the decree of the emperor anyway. Claudius the second prefered single soldiers over married ones, hence the decree.

The other tale told is about a Roman priest who helped christians in prison. Where he ended up being a prisoner himself, sending a letter to his beloved one signed; from your Valentine.

Obviously, u have libre albedrío in these tales to make your own. Like we are all entitled to compose our way to see the world around us. Freedom though comes with responsibility and coherency; for oneself as for others.

The “other” instead of a “brother”, is a common way to see our fellow human being. Like if we were islands on its own drifting and bumping into another, colliding rather than cohesioning.

Think about it, we tend to do the opposite of empowering us…trying to undo ourselves of the burden of earlier generations. Making progression in the name of the holy hairdo and the son of science, forgetting the basic rule of matter…

Beautiful examples there are, in name or sight; in mathematics there is the Cartan connection, in music the Rolling Stones and One-Republic have a song with the same title, in the seventh art there is even a movie called the French Connection…

In our emotions or energy we sometimes find connection! When found do not let go of that person with whom u are so wonderfully connected!

Wishing u a harmonious and romantic Saint Lupus day,

Irena Phaedra
